Devcon Plastic Welder

Devcon Plastic Welder;
Devcon Plastic Welder is a special structural adhesive developed for bonding difficult to join dissimilar materials as well as unprepared metals, composites, ceramics, concrete, wood and standard thermosetting engineering plastics. It also has strong adhesion on nylons, polyesters and epoxy compounds. It produces a strong load-bearing bond that can withstand weather changes, humidity and a wide range of temperature variations.
It is a very useful product for providing a tough bonding for crafts, household and many industrial applications.

Devcon Plastic Welder Product Description:

The Devcon Plastic Welder bonding system provides a stronger bonding than common epoxy systems. It gives over 3500 PSI strength, sets in about 15 minutes and cures in 3 hours. You can use it to bond similar as well as dissimilar substrates. It remains very flexible after curing and provides a superior impact resistance. It does not require much surface preparation.

Devcon Plastic Welder Product features:

This is just like a two-part, epoxy glue system and consists of a resin and a hardener. It comes in tubes or in a double plunger cartridge. You can easily dispense it with a twin cartridge dispenser and mix the correct quantity of both components in the 1:1 ratio.

Devcon Plastic Welder Surface Preparation:

Clean the surfaces to be joined with solvent to wipe out any oil, grease, dirt, deposits or contaminants. You can also clean the surfaces using a vapor phase degreaser or a hot cleaning bath. The metal surface should be lightly abraded to make it rough to strengthen the bond.

Devcon Plastic Welder Mixing:

You should properly mix the resin and hardener for proper curing and getting sufficient strength. If you are using small tubes, squeeze out both resin and hardener into a small dish. Mix them together with a stick for one minute, then apply to the substrate.
If you are using a cartridge, fix the cartridge to a gun or a manual or pneumatic dispensing system. The working temperature is -67°F to 250°F. The working time is 4-6 minutes at 72°F.

Devcon Plastic Welder Application:

If you are joining thin or small pieces, apply a thin-film or a bead of the adhesive mixture on the surface. Assemble or join the mating part to the surface within its recommended working time. Put some pressure on the assembled mating parts so that there is minimum gap and a good contact between the mating parts. A small quantity of adhesive should squeeze out on the edges to indicate proper filling of the gap. The adhesive film thickness should be between 0.015″ and 0.030″ for the best results.

If there is a bigger gap to be joined, apply the Devcon Plastic Welder on the complete surface or the bead should flow over to cover the entire gap. It can fill a gap up to 0.125 in.

Allow the bonded assembly to cure for the recommended time before handling.

Joining Stainless Steel and Aluminum:

For bonding stainless steel and aluminum, you need to prime the substrate surface with Devcon Metal Prep 90 before using Devcon Plastic Welder. This can increase the shear strength of overlap by 30-40%.

You should take necessary safety precautions specified in the safety data sheet while using the product and store Devcon Plastic Welder between 55°F and 75°F. If you store it above 75°F continuously, it will reduce its shelf life. Do not expose it above 100°F as it will instantly lose its reactivity.
